The story behind Hungary City Guide and why we do what we do
Hungary City Guide was born from a simple observation: most travel resources about Hungary either focus exclusively on Budapest or offer surface-level advice that barely scratches the potential of this remarkable country. We wanted to create something different.
Our guides are built from personal experience, countless conversations with locals, and thorough research into the history, culture, and practical realities of each city we cover. We visit the places we write about, eat at the restaurants we recommend, and walk the routes we suggest. Every piece of advice on this site reflects genuine knowledge rather than sponsored content or recycled guidebook text.
We believe that the best travel experiences come from understanding a place on its own terms. That means looking beyond tourist hotspots to discover the everyday rhythms of Hungarian life: the morning coffee ritual, the neighbourhood market, the family-run wine cellar, the park where locals gather on summer evenings.
The principles that guide everything we publish
We only recommend places and experiences we have personally verified. No paid placements, no affiliate-driven suggestions, just genuine advice from people who care about Hungary.
Beautiful photography is lovely, but what travellers really need is practical information. We focus on transport options, opening hours, budget tips, and the small details that make a trip run smoothly.
Travel information goes stale quickly. We review our guides regularly and update them when conditions change, so you can rely on the advice being current when you plan your visit.
We currently publish in-depth guides for three of Hungary's most compelling cities:
We plan to expand our coverage to additional Hungarian cities and regions over time. If there is a particular destination you would like us to cover, please get in touch.
